As an Indigenous Awá woman, I have been an activist since birth, since I was in my mother's womb.
My activism focuses on the defence of our ancestral territories and revitalising our own knowledge systems.
My greatest challenge is the constant pursuit of social justice and territorial autonomy.
I am inspired to continue by the pursuit of a dignified life for our territories and for the whole world.

Meet The Photographer
Jose Vargas Esquerra
A Colombian photojournalist with a career spanning approximately ten years.
Who has published work in national and international media.
I have experience covering conflict and post-conflict situations, political events, sports events, music events, environmental issues, and social and gender and diversity.
I am the winner of the Simón Bolívar National Journalism Award (2023) and the Álvaro Gómez Hurtado Journalism Award (2021 and 2022). Finalist for the Roche Health Journalism Award (2025).
