The Actionists is a large database of portraits and stories celebrating the unsung heroes of South Africa; the on-the-ground innovators creating positive change in their communities.

Launched in 2023, The Actionists started as a visual response to the narrative that nothing positive is happening in South Africa, and quickly became a valuable source of weekly inspiration.

Thom Pierce is a photographer, writer and curator who believes in tolerance, equality and justice.

Through photographic campaigns, personal projects, artworks and collaborations he explores what it means to be human, and builds powerful projects that inspire, educate and advocate for tangible, positive change.

​

He currently works between the UK and South Africa.
